Why Josh?

Accountability, integrity, and community.

Josh Wallensteinis the Democratic nominee for State Representative in House District 133. An anti-corruption attorney and public school advocate, Josh has spent more than two decades fighting fraud, misconduct, and abuse of power and working to hold powerful interests accountable.

Josh believes Texas families are too often paying more and getting less because special interests have too much influence in Austin. He is running to bring greater accountability to state government, strengthen public education, lower costs, and ensure that government works for the people it is supposed to serve.

Experience

For more than two decades, Josh has built his legal career around ethics, compliance, and anti-corruption work. He has advised businesses and organizations on fraud, bribery, misconduct, and accountability, helping ensure that powerful institutions play by the rules.

Today, Josh runs his own Houston-based law firm. That experience gives him firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing small businesses, but it has also reinforced a lesson that has defined his career: when the rules are fair, transparent, and enforced equally, businesses and families have a better opportunity to succeed.

Josh wants to bring that same approach to Austin by rooting out waste, increasing transparency, and challenging the special-interest influence that he believes drives up costs and keeps state government from addressing the problems families face every day.

Public Education

Josh’s commitment to public education is deeply personal. Raised by a single mother after losing his father at a young age, Josh credits his public schools, teachers, and mentors with creating opportunities that eventually took him to Stanford Law School and a successful legal career.

As Josh has said, “Public schools saved my life. Every child deserves the same shot I had.”

That experience is why strengthening public education is central to his campaign. Josh believes Texas should fully support neighborhood schools, invest in teachers, and make sure public education dollars are focused on giving every child the opportunity to succeed.

Josh has also served on the HISD Capital Planning Steering Committee, helping guide conversations around investments in Houston’s public schools.

Community

Josh has been involved in Houston civic organizations including Leadership Houston, the Center for Houston’s Future, and the West Houston Democrats. His community involvement reflects the same approach he has taken throughout his professional career: understand the facts, bring people together, and focus on practical solutions.

For Josh, public service is ultimately about accountability. Texans should be able to trust that their government is spending their money responsibly, investing in their schools and communities, and putting the public interest ahead of politically connected insiders.

Family

Josh and his wife, a marriage and family therapist, are raising their child in Houston. As a husband and father, Josh’s commitment to public schools, affordability, healthcare, and safe communities is personal.

He wants Texas to remain a place where families can afford to build a life, where children can get a great education regardless of their ZIP code, and where government is accountable to the people it serves.

That is why Josh is running: to bring an anti-corruption lawyer’s focus on accountability to Austin, protect and strengthen public education, and make state government work better for families in HD133.
